Learnerships

Workplace Skills Development

Learnerships aim to educate learners with combined workplace experience and structured learning, in an effort to afford them the opportunity to learn skills and develop a career.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide learners with entry-level knowledge, skills and attitudes for the transport and logistics sector of the South African economy. Furthermore, qualifying learners will be afforded the choice of specialisation in any of the modes of transport.

This qualification is for any individual who is, or wishes to be, involved in the administration function in any organisation or business in any sector, or field, as well as in non-commercial organisations (such as clubs and charitable organisations). It contains all the competencies, skills and values required by a learner who wishes to access the National Certificate in Business Administration Services at NQF Level 4.

The purpose of the qualification is to ensure competent professional driving competence in the road transport sector, improving earning capacity of professional drivers, as well as enhancing transport sector professionalism and economic growth. The qualification creates an environment for growth and development of learners, by improving the employment prospects and marketable competence of drivers, and accelerating the redress of past unfair discrimination in education, training and employment opportunities. By setting the minimum standards contained in this qualification, professional driving education and training will also improve.

The purpose of this qualification is to facilitate training and educational opportunities for individuals currently employed in the southern African road transport industry, or those wishing to pursue a career in this industry. Individuals will have the opportunity to specialise in either freight or passenger related fields. The training will be applicable and appropriate to companies where transport is a primary or secondary function.

The safe handling of freight is dependent upon the applicable people complying with the relevant procedures and applying the necessary skills to their handling.

The purpose of the NQF level 2 New Venture Creation qualification is to provide a basis for structured programmes, for potential and existing entrepreneurs to capitalise on opportunities to start and grow sustainable businesses that form part of the mainstream economy, enabling the learners to tender for business opportunities within both the public and private sectors. This qualification is designed for learners who intend to set up or have already set up their own ventures. Assessment of the competencies and knowledge in the qualification needs to be done in the context of the learner’s own new venture.
