Course description

COURSE OUTLINE

At the end of the course, the learner will be able to:

• identify:

  • factors influencing wildland fire behaviour
  • types of wildland fires and their dangers
  • various methods in contacting the fire department
  • basic preventative measures
  • types of fire lines and the construction thereof
  • PPE to be used
  • tools and equipment to be used during wildland fires
  • problem situations that firefighters may encounter and the corrective actions
  • understand and interpret the fire danger index levels

• explain:

  • basic communication skills on the fire ground
  • methods of attack in accordance with fire behaviour
  • and demonstrate mop-up procedures
  • legal requirements.
